Engine Details
1. 3.0L Inline 6 Gasoline Engine
The 3.0L Inline 6 gasoline engine (M256) represents a development over the previous V6 engine (M276). This new engine configuration aligns the six cylinders side by side instead of in a V shape. It produces a remarkable output of 408 horsepower and 499 Nm of torque.
2. 3.0L Inline 6 Diesel Engine
The second engine is the diesel variant of the Inline 6, constructed from aluminum with cast iron pistons, featuring a nanoscale coating on the cylinder walls. This engine generates 313 horsepower and over 650 Nm of torque, providing a 55 horsepower increase over the previous V6 diesel version.
3. 4.0L Twin-Turbocharged V8 Engine
The third engine is the 4.0L Twin-Turbocharged V8 (M176). Mercedes has confirmed that this engine will be one of the most fuel-efficient V8s on the market and will be included in the 2017 S-Class models. It delivers 476 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque.
4. 2.0L Twin-Turbocharged Engine
Finally, the 2.0L Twin-Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine (M264) features an electric unit designed to enhance fuel efficiency by returning approximately 12.5 kW of power. Although Mercedes has not released specific details about this engine, it is expected to yield around 270 horsepower, equating to 135 horsepower per liter.
