The official gazette has issued a new decree outlining the conditions for importing cars for personal use, according to Decree No. 319 of 2024 issued by the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade.
Basic Conditions for Importing Cars
Article One:
Article One of the decree includes the following conditions for the release of cars designated for personal use:
- Import is limited to one car per importer within a five-year period.
- The importer must provide a bank statement proving financial solvency.
- The payment for the car must be made through approved banking methods in Egypt using "Form No. (4)".
- Exemptions apply for cars imported by diplomats and Egyptians residing abroad, provided their payment was made from abroad.
Exemptions from the Decree
Article Two:
The provisions of Article One do not apply to the following cases:
- Cars that were shipped or arrived at Egyptian ports before the implementation of this decree.
- Cars for which a documentary credit was opened or payment was transferred prior to the decree's implementation, according to applicable rules.
- Cars designated for foreign embassies and international organizations, subject to the principle of reciprocity.
- Cars belonging to experts working in Egypt under international agreements and relevant regulations.
