
The Egyptian government has announced strict regulations on importing personal cars as part of an initiative to regulate the local car market. According to the decision published in the official gazette by the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, importers are allowed to bring in only one vehicle per person over a period of five years. This regulation will take effect starting Friday, December 29, 2024.
Conditions for Importing New Cars
The government has established a set of conditions governing the process of importing new personal cars. Under this decision, each importer is entitled to import only one vehicle during the five-year period. Importers must also provide a bank statement proving their financial capability to pay for the car, and they must use approved banking payment methods through Egyptian banks.
Furthermore, importers are required to complete the approved Form No. 4, except in cases concerning diplomatic vehicles or cars owned by Egyptians working abroad.
Exemptions from the Car Import Restrictions
- Vehicles that were shipped or arrived at Egyptian ports before the effective date of the decision.
- Vehicles for which documentary credits were opened or values transferred prior to the enforcement of the decision.
- Vehicles directed to foreign embassies and international organizations, which are exempt based on international agreements.
What Are the Exemptions from the New Car Import Conditions for 2025?
The government has exempted certain cases from the restrictions imposed on car imports. These exemptions include vehicles that have already been shipped or have documentary credits established before the decision takes effect, in addition to cars directed to foreign embassies and international organizations, as stipulated in international agreements.
