New Fees for Electric Vehicle Charging Services in the UAE
The Government of the United Arab Emirates has introduced new fees for electric vehicle (EV) charging services, as detailed in Cabinet Resolution No. 81 of 2024.
This decision follows a thorough review of the UAE Constitution, Federal Law No. (1) of 1972 concerning the competencies of ministries and the authorities of ministers (as amended), and Federal Decree-Law No. 26 of 2019 on public finances (as amended).
The proposal was submitted by the Minister of Finance and received approval from the Cabinet.
Details of the New Charging Fees
Here are the specifics regarding the new fees for electric vehicle charging services:
- Fast Charging Service: A minimum of 1.20 AED + VAT per kilowatt-hour.
- Slow Charging Service: A minimum of 0.70 AED + VAT per kilowatt-hour.
Fee Adjustments
The Cabinet retains the authority to adjust these fees as deemed necessary. This includes the ability to add, remove, or modify the fee structure.
Collection Mechanisms
Federal authorities will collect the fees using methods determined by the Ministry of Finance. Local authorities will follow the mechanisms established at the emirate level.
The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance, will issue any necessary executive decisions and procedures to implement the resolution.
The new fees will come into effect 60 days after the resolution is published in the official gazette.
