Installation of New Speed Radars
New speed radars have been installed across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to monitor drivers who exceed speed limits during unstable weather conditions. In an effort to reduce the number and severity of accidents in such weather, the Abu Dhabi Police have deployed radars that will penalize drivers who do not adhere to speed limits during foggy or dusty conditions.
Speed Limits During Adverse Weather
During bad weather, large electronic signs display temporary speed limits that drivers must follow. For instance:
- The maximum speed limit on a road with a standard limit of 120 km/h is reduced to 80 km/h when visibility drops below 2000 meters.
Drivers are required to comply with these speed limits to ensure their safety and the safety of other road users.
Penalties for Speeding Violations
Drivers must pay close attention to electronic signs during inclement weather and adhere to the speed limits displayed. According to the Federal Traffic Law of the United Arab Emirates, the following penalties will be imposed on speeding drivers:
- 600 AED for exceeding the speed limit by 30 km/h.
- 700 AED for exceeding the speed limit by 40 km/h.
- 1000 AED for exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/h.
When weather conditions improve and visibility returns to normal, drivers must adhere to the maximum speed limits specified on the traffic signs posted along the road.
