Renault Clio RS16: Celebrating 40 Years of Renault Sport

Like all manufacturers these days building special editions of their popular cars to mark achievements, Renault isn’t far behind. The French car maker waited for the Monaco Grand Prix hype to settle in to release their newest offering – the Clio RS16. This car is created to celebrate the 40 years of Renault Sport.

Performance and Specifications
The Clio RS16 is essentially a Renault Clio Sport enhanced with a powerful Megane 275 Trophy R engine. Here are some key specifications:
- Engine: 2.0 liter turbocharged engine
- Power: 271 BHP
- Transmission: 6-speed manual gearbox
- Suspension: Taken from the Clio R3T rally car
- Tyres: Track-focused tyres
- Seats: Bucket seats with 6-point harnesses
- Exhaust: Bespoke exhaust with straight pipes
- Dampers: Ohlin dampers

Weight and Design Considerations
To enhance performance, the Clio RS16 does not feature rear seats or air conditioning, which helps reduce weight. This is particularly important as the new engine is heavier than the regular Clio RS. However, the manual gearbox is lighter than the paddleshift option, balancing the overall weight.
Design Features
- Body Width: 60mm wider for improved track handling
- Wheel Arches: Bigger to accommodate bespoke tyres
- Rear Spoiler: Taken from the Clio Cup racer, adding 40 kg of downforce at 200 km/h and above
The Clio RS16 has yet to reach production, but around 300 units are expected, with each priced at approximately AED 200,000.
