It's shocking to think how much Smart has changed over the years. When the company started, it was a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Swatch, the novelty Swiss watch brand. Initially, Smart focused solely on compact city cars, but now it's expanding into a full-line brand with high-performance vehicles. The latest addition, according to Autocar, will be the brand's first sedan, called the Smart #6.
Super Power From Geely
Like all recent Smart models, the #6 will be built using Geely's advanced platform technology. Reports indicate that the Smart #6 will share its underpinnings with the Zeekr 007. The sedan will likely feature multiple powertrain options, including:
- Rear-wheel drive with 335 HP
- All-wheel drive with 637 HP (matching the Zeekr 007)
Battery options will include:
- A 75-kWh battery for entry-level models
- A 100-kWh battery for high-spec versions
Given its size and performance, the Smart #6 is expected to compete with models like the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6. No teaser images have been released yet, but based on other Smart models, it will likely have a sleek, aerodynamic design similar to a baby Mercedes EQ sedan.
There's No Way It's Coming To America
With the Smart #6 becoming the fourth model in the lineup, there's little indication that Mercedes plans to reintroduce the brand to the U.S. However, buyers interested in similar vehicles can look at related models from Geely-owned brands, such as:
Polestar 4
The Polestar 4 shares similarities with the Smart #6, offering:
- Rear-wheel drive variant with 272 HP
- All-wheel drive variant with 544 HP
- Base price around $55,000
Volvo EX30
The Volvo EX30 is closely related to the Smart #1 and offers:
- Dual-motor AWD with 422 HP
