Introduction
After its unveiling in 2016, followed by considerable drama regarding production and delivery timelines, we find ourselves in 2019 with the Tesla Model 3 finally arriving in the UAE. We were invited to take a closer look and discover what sets it apart from other Tesla models and electric vehicles.
Exterior Design
The first thing that stands out about the Tesla Model 3 is its exterior design. "Pictures do not do this car justice." It has been beautifully crafted to meet our expectations for an electric vehicle. With no need for engine cooling vents at the front, there is no front grille, resulting in a remarkably sculpted nose.
Performance
Motor Version
The version presented to us was the long-range dual motor version, with two additional versions to be launched later as stated by Tesla:
- Standard short-range version
- High-performance version for enthusiasts of exhilarating driving
Acceleration and Top Speed
The Model 3 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds for the version we tested. With the high-performance package offered by Tesla, it can achieve this in only 3.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 255 km/h.
Safety Systems
From the outside, you'll notice that the car is equipped with eight cameras positioned around the vehicle to assist with driving, parking, and ensuring maximum safety. Despite being Tesla's smallest model, it has received five stars in every category from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Storage and Comfort
The Model 3 features storage compartments at both the front and rear, with the rear storage area divided into two sections:
- Traditional storage space
- The area typically occupied by a fuel tank
You can fold the rear seats down to create even more space.
Interior Design
Upon entering the cabin, I was surprised by the beautiful interior design. It was so minimalist that there were no buttons for control—just a large horizontal touchscreen that allows you to manage all vehicle functions. The air vent features two smart airflow systems instead of traditional slats.
Seating Space
In the back, you'll enjoy ample head and legroom, along with an enhanced sense of spaciousness thanks to the full panoramic roof.
Efficiency and Charging
The long-range dual motor version offers a driving range of up to 500 km on a single charge. Charging times vary based on the charger used:
- Using a DC charger, you can gain 274 km in just half an hour
- 71 km of range for every hour of charging with an AC charger
