Discontinuation of the Four-Cylinder Toyota Supra
Toyota has silently killed the four-cylinder Supra. The four-cylinder variant of the Supra, introduced in 2020, was part of the fifth-generation lineup. It featured a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and aimed at providing a more accessible entry point into the Supra family while maintaining the car's sporty appeal.
Sales Performance
In 2023, the Supra experienced slow sales, with only 2,652 units sold, while other sports cars saw increased sales. Although Toyota doesn't provide a detailed breakdown of sales by trim or engine type, it is believed that the four-cylinder variant was less popular compared to the six-cylinder model.
Remaining Supra Lineup
With the discontinuation of the four-cylinder variant, the Supra lineup now exclusively features the six-cylinder model. The 2025 Supra is available in two trims: 3.0 and 3.0 Premium. Both trims are powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, delivering:
- 382 horsepower
- 368 pound-feet of torque
Buyers can choose between:
- Eight-speed automatic transmission
- Six-speed manual transmission
The automatic version can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 3.9 seconds, while the manual takes about 4.2 seconds.
Future of the Supra
The discontinuation of the four-cylinder Supra highlights Toyota's commitment to enhancing its sports car lineup by focusing on the more powerful and popular six-cylinder model. The future of the Supra looks safe for now.
