Details of the Inspection Campaigns
Toyota, in collaboration with government agencies in the UAE, has completed five inspection campaigns targeting counterfeit auto parts distributors in the third quarter of this year, focusing on the emirates of Dubai and Sharjah. This brings the total value of counterfeit products confiscated and destroyed this year to over 26 million dirhams.
Confiscated Parts
The majority of the seized parts included frequently requested products, such as:
- Engine oil filters: Over 34,000 units were confiscated, valued at approximately 760,000 dirhams.
- Brake pads: About 6,000 units valued at more than 1.5 million dirhams.
Counterfeit brake pads, which are often made from dry herbs or asbestos, pose significant risks not only to the driver’s safety but also to other road users.
Negative Impacts of Counterfeit Auto Parts
Due to the poor quality of materials used in their production, oil filters can fail more quickly, potentially leading to significant engine damage or complete failure, resulting in expensive repairs.
Toyota's Ongoing Efforts
In addition to conducting inspections on counterfeit auto parts and facilitating safe, vehicle-free roads, Al-Futtaim Toyota continues its robust efforts against counterfeit parts distributors by providing training sessions for about 100 government officials in the UAE.
