A keen supporter of the nation’s Emiratization program, Uber relaunched its services in Abu Dhabi after a joint agreement with the Integrated Transport Center (ITC) and the Department of Transport. The agreement allows Emiratis to become Uber drivers and use their personal vehicles to pick-up and drop off passengers on a full-time or part-time basis.
Mohammad Darwish Al Qamzi, General Manager of ITC, said: “With Uber, we are delighted to be able to provide reliable and convenient transportation solutions to residents and visitors in Abu Dhabi. All private and public vehicles, [in addition to] driver partners are supervised under ITC’s regulations and meet the required standards and licensing requirements.”
The base fare for Uber in the UAE ranges between AED 5.4 and AED 10.6, dependent on the day of the week, time of the day, and whether it is on a public holiday or not. Fare per kilometer stands at AED 2.25 and waiting charges are calculated at AED 0.25 per minute.
