Korean auto giant Kia has recently rolled out the all-new, third generation of the Soul subcompact crossover SUV. Based on the same platform as its cousin - the new Hyundai Kona, the 2020 Kia Soul is one of the brand’s best success stories and as with most cars in this category, is primarily aimed at a young (and hip) audience. Then we have the second generation Honda HR-V, all set and willing to take on the Soul.

The C-segment sedan category is perhaps one of the most happening yet not the most exciting segments in the auto industry. The latter is chiefly because of the incredible popularity of compact crossover SUVs, which have managed to claw their way into the lower-half of the C-segment sedan genre. Among the several auto giants that operate in the region, Toyota and Hyundai are perhaps some of the biggest and most influential brands. In fact, it was the Japanese that gave the world its first crossover SUV in the form of the Toyota RAV4. When it made its debut back in 1994, the Toyota RAV4 was credited for being the first compact crossover SUV in the world - an honor that it holds to this day. In markets such as the UAE, the RAV4 is the only compact crossover offering from the world-renowned Japanese auto giant -- a precarious perch in a region that’s dominated by vehicles from this segment.

The Volvo XC60 was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2008, and in less than a year, it became the company’s best-selling model. The XC60, like most crossovers these days, is built around a car platform and in the case of the first-gen model, borrows its underpinnings from the S80 sedan.

The Subaru Forester is one of the most important and celebrated models in the brand’s lineup. In a world teeming with compact crossover SUVs, the Subaru Forester was one of the first and has been chugging along without much fuss since its global debut back in 1997.
