The Jaguar XF was part of the plan to reinvent what a Jaguar should look and feel like. It debuted in 2007 and right away it became a fashion icon. The premium design and luxurious interior made the XF the right alternative to the German offerings like the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E Class and the Audi A6. Jaguar had moved away from the ‘grandfather’ image and became a trendy good-feel car to drive.  So, with the all-new XF, things are bound to improve. Let’s have a look.

Exterior

From the first glance, the new XF doesn’t look new at all. Initially, I was a bit skeptical when it had launched as I did not feel attracted towards it. But, after comparing the XF and the XE side by side, it made sense. Both the cars look almost the same. The XE being a tad smaller while XF being the bigger sibling. Jaguar is following the German way in differentiating between their models.  And I believe, the new XJ will also look the same. This is the new design, so deal with it. This, however, doesn’t mean that the car isn’t new. The car is entirely new apart from the design and is made of aluminum to save 100kg weight. It has a longer wheelbase but the overall length is shorter and the height is lowered. All in all, the evolutionary design works for me.

Interior

The same story continues in the interior as well. The car still has air vents that open like garage doors and a small dial that rises. The center console has the updated infotainment system which works much better than the earlier one. All the standard features like Bluetooth, phone, navigation, camera, climate control etc are included. All in all, a well-rounded interior that offers a comfortable ride and good insulation from the outside world.

Drive

The car I tested was powered by a 3.0 liter supercharged engine producing 340 BHP and 450 Nm of torque. Couple that with an aluminum frame and you have a sedan that takes 5.4 seconds to accelerate from 0-100km/h and comes to halt from 100 in less than 3 seconds. But the most surprising aspect of this car is the handling at corners. This thing has the potential to beat the 5 Series in being the driver’s car – and that’s a big statement.

Verdict

In simple words, the XF is exciting.
