Launch of the 2016 Honda Civic
Honda held a special event to unveil the all-new 2016 Honda Civic. The event was attended by Honda Middle East executives and journalists (you can read the news here). The launch took place at the Four Seasons Resort in Jumeirah, Dubai. The program included a press conference followed by a "feel the car" session and feedback collection, culminating in a driving experience to Fujairah and back the next day. Exterior Design
The exterior design of the 2016 Honda Civic is striking at first glance. It features a sporty shape, is wider and lower than its predecessor, and comes equipped with LED headlights and taillights, making it eye-catching wherever it goes. The only downside is that the RS model has dual exhaust pipes that are hidden behind the rear bumper, making them difficult to see.
Interior
The interior of the Honda Civic is very appealing, and it was emphasized during the press conference that the cabin will meet European car standards. While the interior is impressive, the armrests in the EXi model need improvement, and the glove box could use more secure attachment. The addition of rear air conditioning vents is a good feature, although the air distribution seems to be primarily through the front and rear vents. Other than that, it satisfies all customer needs in today's market.
Driving Experience
Honda has replaced the old 1.8-liter engine with two new options: a 1.5-liter (RS) and a 2.0-liter (EXi), both equipped with CVT. The 2.0-liter CVT engine performs well for daily driving. However, I was not impressed with the 1.5-liter CVT, as it does not deliver a sporty driving experience, primarily due to the CVT. The turbo boost in the RS is also not very noticeable. If Honda offered a conventional automatic transmission with a turbocharged engine, it would truly be a sporty sedan. That said, I have no major complaints. The ride is smooth, and road noise is minimal, making the drive to and from Dubai quite comfortable. Overall, a job well done.
