Practical, reliable, and above all, affordable. These are the exact terms that spring to mind when talking about cars like the Hyundai Accent and the Nissan Sunny. In this shootout, we pit these two popular family sedans to see which one comes out on top.
Exterior
Utilizing their 2.0 Fluidic Design philosophy, the Hyundai Accent comes across as tauter and more striking in its overall appearance. In comparison, the design of the Nissan Sunny is more in keeping with practicality than just outright visual appeal. The angular nose and straight lines are proof of this and lends the Sunny a more upright stance. The Japanese sedan also stands taller and is certainly longer than the Accent.

Interior
The extra length of the Nissan Sunny pays dividends once you step inside the cabin; offering more head, shoulder and knee room than the Hyundai Accent. The Sunny’s cabin feels airier with its large greenhouse area and generally offers more space for all of its occupants. Also, its 490-liter trunk is larger than the one found on its competitor.
The cabin layout of the Hyundai Accent feels a tad bit sportier when compared to the Nissan Sunny. The cabin materials, though not of a particularly superior quality, feel less tacky than the ones found in the Sunny. That said, both cars come equipped with ABS, airbags, keyless entry & go, steering-mounted audio controls, power windows, and automatic climate control among others.
Performance
The Hyundai Accent comes with a 1.4-liter four-banger that makes 100hp and 132Nm of torque. This mill sends its ponies to the front wheels via a CVT box, enabling the Accent to touch 100 km/h in 12.2 seconds, whilst top speed is just over 180 km/h.
Meanwhile, the Nissan Sunny gets a 1.5-liter four-cylinder which develops 99hp and 135Nm of torque. Mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels, the Sunny hits 100 km/h in a sluggish 15.5 seconds, whilst top speed is 178 km/h.

Verdict
The Hyundai Accent looks fancier and is comparatively faster than the Sunny. However, the Nissan offers better cabin and luggage space, and there’s always the badge appeal. In conclusion, if design and performance are your priorities, the Hyundai Accent is a fair deal. But with prices starting at AED 43,000, the Nissan Sunny makes a pretty good case for itself.
