There is good news from the BMW camp – which can be not-so-good news for the Mercedes-Benz group. From the rumors online, it is stated that the BMW group is planning to a launch a full-size SUV by 2018. It is tentatively known as the X7 – to justify the added length to the regular X5. So, this means there is going to be a BMW to compete against the likes of the Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-Benz GLS Class and the Land Rover Range Rover. This is not all. BMW has also apparently stated that there will be premium version of the X7 as well. This comes as no surprise because the Range Rover has launched the SV AutoBiography and there is the Bentley Bentayga coming soon.
The confirmation comes in from the BMW AG Sales and Marketing Director Ian Robertson who has confirmed to the website AutoExpress that the BMW X7 won’t be coming anytime soon. BMW is looking at 2018 for the launch of this full-size SUV. Right now, the car has been through the development phase and looks like a completely new machine with little resemblance to the X5 and is definitely not just an X5 with a longer wheelbase. He also said that with the X7, the idea is to increase the BMW portfolio and tap into more market segments which BMW wasn’t before and the competitors were cashing in on that opportunity.
Robertson also mentioned that the BMW X7 will be arriving in two variants. One will be the standard seven-seater model with foldable seats which will be priced less than hundred thousand US dollars. The other one will have four seats and a limousine-like environment with plush interior and added comfort features. That special X7 will be priced more than hundred thousand US dollars. The car is being built on the same carbon core technology used in the 7 series and the i8. This means that the new Rolls Royce SUV would also share some features with the BMW X7.
