It’s somewhat surprising to realize that the American company Chevrolet, known for producing high-performance vehicles like the Corvette ZR1 and Camaro ZL1, is also the manufacturer of the Aveo, a budget-friendly car with average performance. This small, practical vehicle has surprisingly outperformed its siblings in sales.

Exterior Design
While the Aveo may not be considered a stunning car, it excels in practicality with its elongated body and 15-inch alloy wheels. The raised roofline enhances headroom, the halogen fog lights improve visibility, and the large trunk adds to its utility. The oversized windows may seem questionable, but they certainly contribute to a well-ventilated cabin.
All these features indicate that Chevrolet prioritized practicality over aesthetics in the design of the Aveo.
Interior Design
Upon entering the cabin, you’ll notice the extensive use of hard plastics on the dashboard and doors. This can be overlooked considering its reasonable price point, which is common among competing vehicles. The adjustable seats, with four positions, are comfortable, and the air conditioning system is powerful, even in high outdoor temperatures. Despite its practical interior with two side pockets and several oddly shaped storage openings, you may find yourself placing your phone in the cup holders.
Features
The Aveo shares safety features with its Japanese competitors, including Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), traction control, and two airbags. However, it lacks rear air conditioning vents, which would have been a nice addition. There are also various quirks to keep the driver engaged, such as a strangely placed 'MENU' button on the turn signal lever that displays the term ‘tiRe lEaRN’ oddly on the dashboard screen, along with a slot on the dashboard for business cards.
Driving Experience
Without delving too deep into technical aspects, the 2018 Chevrolet Aveo is equipped with a 1.6-liter engine, larger than those offered by its competitors. It provides more power than rivals, but its fuel efficiency is less impressive, with a consumption rate of 7.1 liters per 100 km.
The vehicle features a 6-speed automatic transmission that delivers power to the front wheels much more effectively and smoothly than the CVT transmission, which I find to be completely overrated in its claims of fuel efficiency. The automatic transmission stands out for its seamless shifting and logical gear changes, which is why I focused on this feature.
Verdict
Priced at AED 49,000, the Chevrolet Aveo is positioned between the more affordable Mitsubishi Attrage and the pricier Toyota Yaris. The Aveo successfully combines the best features of both competitors while offering an extremely reasonable price for a city-friendly vehicle.
