Introduction
With a distinct presence in the competitive crossover market, Hyundai has unveiled the 2018 Kona to compete with models like Mazda CX-3, Nissan Kicks, and Renault Duster. The Kona is set to begin sales in Korea by the end of this month. Following in the footsteps of its sister company Kia, the Kona is named after a coastal region in Hawaii.
Exterior Design
Visually, the Hyundai Kona stands out with its bold front end, featuring a muscular hood and distinctive lines running along the body. It is equipped with LED headlights and taillights that give the vehicle a vibrant glow, complemented by uniquely designed wheels.

Technology and Comfort
The Kona comes equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, along with 4G connection and an infotainment system of your choice featuring a touchscreen available in sizes of 5, 7, or 8 inches. Targeting a younger audience, it also includes the industry's first wireless charging system, which detects whether your phone is fully charged or left in the car after exiting.
Engines and Performance
The Kona shares its platform with the upcoming Kia Stonic and is expected to offer two engine options in the Gulf region:
- Natural Aspirated Engine: A 2.0-liter engine likely to produce around 150 horsepower and 180 Nm of torque.
- Turbocharged Engine: A 1.6-liter engine expected to generate approximately 175 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque.
