2019 Renault Duster Launch Experience in Jordan
Introduction
When I received the invitation from Renault Middle East to participate in the official launch of the 2019 Renault Duster, I was very happy. This was not only because I would be trying out a new car that hasn’t reached our market yet, but also because the launch was going to take place in my hometown in Jordan.
Event Overview
After a nice weekend with the family, I met one of the officials for this event and set off together for the lowest point in the world at the Dead Sea to begin our experience of the all-new 2019 Renault Duster. I arrived at the destination in the afternoon and was warmly welcomed by the Renault Middle East team. They explained what they had planned for the next couple of days, and after the brief, I proceeded to relax at the Kempinski Hotel & Spa. This was a really different kind of experience for me, even though I had been to this place in the past.
Driving Experience
The following day we met Renault Middle East CEO Marwan Haidamous and his team. They briefed us about the car and explained the differences between the new model and the previous one. After this, all of us journalists went back to our hotel rooms to read up and familiarize ourselves with the car that we were about to test. It was rather nice to see that there were eleven 2019 Renault Dusters waiting for us, one of which caught my eye with its brilliant orange paint. As it turned out, that orange Duster was my test car for the drive, and its distinct color helped me stand out from the other journalists.
The drive began as our large group headed out to check some nearby areas and famous landmarks. Despite having come here in the past, this was my first time driving through these locations. We took the mountain road to the Wadi Al Mujib, then made our way to the beautiful Dana Reserve to reach the pink city of Petra. Driving through the mountain road to little Petra was one of the most beautiful and memorable experiences I had in a long time.
Design Changes
After this arduous but pleasant drive experience, I took a good look at the car I had been driving. This is where I started noticing the differences between the all-new Duster and its previous iteration. The 2019 Renault Duster has a clear change in appearance compared to the previous model. It features:
- A new chrome front grille
- C-shaped daytime-running LEDs
- A more dynamic side profile
- Refreshed rear lights with a daring square shape
All of these changes make the overall design appear more youthful, trendy, and closely aligned with the recent design language of other Renault models.
Interior Features
The changes on the 2019 Renault Duster continue in the interior, where almost all bits and pieces have been overhauled. Key highlights include:
- A sportier, leather-wrapped steering wheel
- Improved dashboard and door materials
- More comfortable seats for long journeys
- Increased storage space by 20%
- Boot space expanded to 478 liters
Technology and Features
On the technology front, the 2019 Renault Duster boasts distinct features that reflect its competitive pricing. Notable features include:
- Hill descent control
- Multiview camera with blind spot warning
- Automatic air conditioning
- Remote engine start system
- 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- Keyless entry with Renault’s smart card
However, these features may not be available on the base model, which starts at AED 54,000 in the UAE.
Performance and Variants
The all-new 2019 Duster will be available in 2WD and 4WD variants, along with two petrol engines:
- A 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine connected to a CVT transmission (2WD model)
- A 2.0-liter engine mated to an automatic transmission (4WD model)
Commenting on the launch of the all-new Duster, Marwan Haidamous, Renault Middle East Managing Director, stated, “Before the arrival of the original Duster in 2012, there was little awareness of the Renault brand in the Middle East; the original Duster was responsible for boosting the brand’s awareness. Now, six years on, we are welcoming the all-new Duster which will again reinvent and reinvigorate the brand to new levels of performance and positive opinion – pushing us further towards our goal of being ‘best in class’.”
