2017 Audi A4 Review: Luxury Sedan Redefined

Audi has always been known for their all-wheel drive Quattro systems, made famous by their impeccable rally heritage. From 1981 to 1985, Audi Quattro cars won 23 rallies and secured 6 consecutive World Rally Championships (WRC). The first Audi A4 was introduced in 1994, succeeding the Audi 80 and has consistently been a strong contender in the entry-level luxury category, featuring a front-engine, front-wheel drive format with the optional Quattro all-wheel drive system.

Exterior
The exterior of the all-new Audi A4 features a modern design that has been drastically revamped, making it the best-looking A4 to date. The optional S-Line bodykit enhances the car’s aggression and stance, positioning it closer to the entry-level sports car segment rather than just luxury. The **Audi matrix LED headlights** are exquisitely designed, showcasing exceptional quality.
The blend of curves and sharp lines creates a visually striking profile; the rear boasts smooth curves, particularly around the boot and spoiler, while the front is aggressive with a large grille and angled headlights, emphasizing the car's width. This complete overhaul of the body style is a welcome change, resulting in a stunning vehicle.

Interior
Upon entering the all-new A4, the cabin impresses with high-quality features, including solid aluminum buttons and luxurious leather, creating a relaxing environment. The steering wheel, reminiscent of the Audi R8, is sporty yet comfortable. The minimalistic design is elegant and beautiful rather than boring.
However, in Dubai’s heat, the metal buttons can become too hot to touch comfortably. Fortunately, the **AC** in the GCC Spec A4 cools the cabin quickly. A minor downside is the gear selector, which feels less ergonomic and the reverse button is somewhat awkward to use.
The rear seats offer ample space and comfort, making it a genuine five-seater with plenty of headroom and rear-facing air conditioning, which is particularly effective.

Safety & Technology
The 2017 Audi A4 comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of new technology and safety features. The assistance package includes:
- 360-degree cameras
- Audi side assist
- Audi pre-sense rear
- Cross traffic assist
- Exit warning
- Park assist
- Parking aid at the front and rear
These systems work effectively, making driving less stressful. While the park assist function was useful, it did not instill confidence for frequent use.
The new **MMI** and virtual cockpit enhance the driving experience. The MMI system, displayed on an 8.3-inch monitor, features touch-sensitive capabilities, allowing users to zoom and input characters for navigation easily. It is quick and user-friendly.
The virtual cockpit, a standout feature, is a 12.3-inch LCD screen that provides critical information in high resolution. Users can minimize the speedometer to enlarge the navigation display. This innovative technology positions Audi ahead in automotive innovation.
The **Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system** is exceptional, providing an immersive audio experience that feels like being at a concert with rich sound depth.
The new Audi smartphone system integrates Android and iOS devices into the MMI interface, and it also allows for wireless charging by placing the mobile on the center storage compartment.

Driving Experience
The all-new Audi A4 is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine paired with a 7-speed S-Tronic transmission. Despite the modest specifications, the performance is impressive. This engine is responsive and efficient, achieving a fuel efficiency of 6.2L/100km. The A4 accelerates from 0-100 kph in an impressive 5.2 seconds, with potential for even quicker times when using launch control.
The standout feature of the 2017 A4 is the **Quattro system**, which delivers incredible cornering speeds. Audi has perfected the ride quality in the 2017 range, providing a remarkably quiet cabin at 100 kph, comparable to luxury brands like Rolls Royce, thanks to a drag coefficient of 0.27.
