The Audi Q2, the smallest offering in the German brand’s SUV line-up, hits the production line following its world premiere at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. With production at the automaker’s main plant in Ingolstadt underway, the order books are likely to open very, very shortly.

The Ingolstadt plant is the brand’s largest production facility and the second largest in Europe, responsible for assembling in excess of 5,000,000 vehicles a year. Do the math and that equates to something mind-boggling - a new car every 30 seconds. With a fully automatic module to install the drivetrain on the assembly line now in place, production is expected to be close to 450 units a day.
On the assembly line, the Q2 is accompanied by the A3 where it goes through the body shop, paint shop and assembly process simultaneously. The Audi Q2 features the newest technology on offer and is manufactured with a choice of six different engines - three petrol and three diesel units for various markets across the globe.

Albert Mayer, plant director, Audi site, Ingolstadt, said, “The start of series production of a new model is always a great challenge and something special for a plant and its employees. We are proud to be building the Audi Q2, the Q-family entry model, here in Ingolstadt for the world market.”
