Well, this took some time but it has finally happened. The long overdue update to the big brute from Bentley – the Mulsanne – is finally here. Bentley Motors has unveiled the 2017 Mulsanne to the internet community. Its official launch is at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
Now let’s have a look at the changes under the microscope. Well, from the first glance, it looks new, unlike the Continental GT/ GTC which look a lot like their predecessor and one has to really look deep to figure out the differences between the old and new model. The new Mulsanne gets a new grille finished in stainless steel and chrome. I like the stainless steel but chrome, not so much. The rear too receives a few subtle changes as well.
Coming to the interior, well there are a lot of goodies to please every buyer out there. For starters, there is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay so all you techies will be pleased to know that Bentley is not some old fashioned brute but a modern hulk. Moreover, there is a 2200-watt audio system with 20 speakers for those hip-and-happening beats to be played out loud. If you have kids, or you just want to sit back and let your driver do the driving then there are two 10.2-inch removable tablets as well with Android for relaxation and probably some video calling if you’re in the mood courtesy those front facing cams in the tablet.
Bentley hasn’t forgotten about the car itself. The new Mulsanne Speed has better handling, comfort and gearshifts for a thrilling drive in the cruise ship. One more major breakthrough in the new Mulsanne is the added space for the rear passengers – 250 millimeter to be precise. This adds leg space for rear passengers to basically lie down on their reclining seats and enjoy the view from the sunroof while being driven.
Something which did not change however is the engine. It is the same 6.75 liter V8 engine producing 505 BHP and 1020 Nm of torque in the Mulsanne and 530 BHP and 1100 Nm of torque in the Speed.
