Driving Penalties in Fog in the UAE
Tags:
Introduction
With thick fog covering the United Arab Emirates and an increase in accidents due to poor visibility, police forces across the country have started issuing fines and black points to drivers who operate vehicles with hazard lights or "four-way" lights activated under these conditions.
Fines and Penalties
Offenders face a fine of 500 AED along with a penalty of 4 black points. This is due to the inability of drivers behind to determine which lane you will be moving into when using turn signals.
It is advisable to use hazard lights only when stopped in a safe area to alert other drivers of your presence.
Safety Guidelines
- Public transport drivers and bus drivers are required to stop when visibility is less than 50 meters.
- Bus drivers will be fined 500 AED and receive 4 black points if they violate this rule.
Traffic Rules During Foggy Weather
According to traffic rule number 178 from 2017, truck drivers will also face fines of 1,000 AED and receive 4 black points if they violate traffic regulations during foggy weather.
Brigadier Khalifa Mohammed Al Khaili, Director of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police, stated: "Bus and truck drivers will be fined if they violate traffic regulations on the roads during foggy weather conditions."
Driving Tips in Fog
Drivers are urged to exercise extra caution when driving in fog and to maintain greater distances from the vehicle in front. It is highly recommended to use fog lights (floodlights) while avoiding the use of hazard lights (four-way) during driving.
