Introduction
The EVRT Dubai 2020, a highly anticipated electric vehicle journey, is set to kick off in the Middle East with a series of groundbreaking initiatives designed to showcase the capabilities of electric vehicles. The event will take place from March 25 to March 30, 2020.
Journey Details
Over a hundred participants are preparing to embark on the world's largest electric vehicle journey, featuring the UAE's Minister of Climate Change, His Excellency Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, who is scheduled to join part of the trip. The journey will see 15 electric vehicles covering a distance of 1,000 kilometers, aimed at inspiring a shift towards smart mobility and the adoption of electric cars.
Participant Comments
Commenting on the journey, Ben Pullen, co-founder and CEO of Generation.e, stated, "This year promises to be more innovative than ever, with world-first challenges and a drag race providing a significant opportunity to gather the latest and greatest electric vehicles from around the globe and showcase their capabilities here in the UAE. It's a unique chance for manufacturers to present their cars in an environment focused entirely on the adoption of electric vehicles in the region, and we are eager to reveal more details about this important event as we prepare for the largest electric vehicle journey in the world!"
Global Self-Charging Challenge
The Global Self-Charging Challenge has been organized for the first time to demonstrate the effectiveness of regenerative braking and how technology has evolved in the automotive industry. The challenge is simple: electric vehicles from a variety of brands will reach the summit of Jebel Jais, standing 1,934 meters (6,345 feet) high, to discover how much energy can be regenerated while descending.
This challenge highlights how regenerative braking occurs when driving downhill, thus recharging the vehicle's battery during the descent.
Electric Car Races
One of the highly anticipated events during the journey is the drag race—another opportunity to showcase the capabilities of electric vehicles in a competitive environment.
Corporate Support
Both Hyundai Motor and One Moto are among the latest companies to offer their support, seizing the opportunity to showcase their fully electric vehicles during a six-day exploratory journey across the UAE from March 25 to March 30, 2020.
Hyundai Statements
Bangsun Jeong, Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor Middle East and Africa, stated, "We are excited to showcase the Hyundai Kona and Ioniq for the first time in the region during the EVRT electric car journey. Hyundai aims to become a global leader in eco-friendly vehicles, with plans for a comprehensive lineup of 21 electric models, including battery electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and fuel-cell electric vehicles. Being part of EVRT Dubai will strengthen the connection between Hyundai's global efforts and consumers in the UAE, promoting a transition to more environmentally friendly driving in the Middle East."
Partnership with Local Organizations
Sulaiman Al Zaben, Director of Al Majid Group, added, "We have been proud partners with Hyundai for over three decades, and we are delighted to be part of this wonderful initiative. We believe that EVRT Dubai will raise awareness among UAE customers about the benefits of affordable electric vehicles, encouraging more consumers to invest in electric cars when purchasing their next vehicles. With Dubai offering generous incentives for electric vehicle owners, we see tremendous trends toward electric cars in the market."
