Wait, What? Ford Supervan beats Mustang GTD's Nürburgring Lap Time
Tags:

Ford’s latest “van” is rewriting history. In a jaw-dropping demonstration of electric might and engineering bravado, the SuperVan 4.2 completed a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap in 6:48.393, making it the fastest Ford ever around the Green Hell.
It eclipsed the Corvette ZR1X’s previous benchmark of 6:49.275 and left Mustang GTD’s 6:52 time in the dust.
An Electrified Legend Born From Transit
This isn’t your hardware-store delivery van. Built from the ground up as an electric accelerator, the SuperVan 4.2 sports four electric motors that combine for around 2,000 horsepower. It’s a reincarnation of a project that started in the ’70s, now thrust into the EV era. The run was piloted by Romain Dumas, a Nürburgring veteran known for his blistering time in the Volkswagen ID.R.

Record-Breaking Pace, Redefined
A 6:48.393 Nürburgring time may sound insane, but context helps. That puts the SuperVan ahead of hypercars like the ZR1X, 911 GT3 RS, Lamborghini Aventador SVJ and nearly matching the record-bound Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. Mind you, it achieved this by wearing slick racing tires on a circuit thousands of times judged by purists.
Under the van’s skin lies the kind of EV tech that will likely influence future performance cars from Ford, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck among them. “We never rest,” said Ford’s Michael Norton. A part of the Porsche crew’s legacy lingers too, the run was a nod to Sabine Schmitz and the Top Gear Transit challenge that inspired a generation.

FAQs
Is the SuperVan road-legal?
No. It’s a track-only demonstrator with bespoke chassis and slick tires, bearing little resemblance to production Transit vans.
How much power does it make?
About 2,000 horsepower, thanks to four electric motors which make it one of the most powerful Ford-run vehicles of all time.
Who drove it?
Legendary Nürburgring ace Romain Dumas, known for his electric record-setting runs, was behind the wheel.
How does that lap compare to production cars?
Even road cars like the Corvette ZR1X and current performance benchmarks fall short of the SuperVan’s time though conditions and tires differ.
