Ford has unveiled the all-electric F-150 Lightning, equipped with advanced technologies that make it the most intelligent and innovative truck in its history. This truck comes loaded with numerous groundbreaking features designed to provide customers with an unprecedented ownership and driving experience, from its highest torque ever to smart towing capabilities, connected technologies, and software updates. Additionally, it can power a home and boasts the largest digital interior screen among all full-size trucks currently available.

The company is set to begin manufacturing the truck next year at a new technologically advanced plant using sustainable manufacturing practices, located in the multi-story Ford Rouge complex in Dearborn, near Detroit.

Statements from Officials

Bill Ford, CEO of Ford, stated: "The F-150 Lightning represents a pivotal moment for both Ford and the American automotive sector, propelling us toward achieving zero carbon emissions and envisioning a digitally connected future. The F-Series trucks have been the best-selling vehicles in the United States for 44 years, serving as a cornerstone of our business and a prominent icon trusted by generations of customers. Therefore, we are committed to developing this truck to meet today’s demands and the aspirations of the new generation."

The F-150 Lightning is a key element of Ford's global plan to invest $22 billion in the development of electric vehicles and to solidify its leadership in this sector. Ford is launching zero-emission versions of its most popular and well-loved vehicles, including the Mustang, Transit, and F-150, with more additions planned in the coming years.

Features and Characteristics

With its smart technologies and unique features that enhance comfort and convenience, the F-150 Lightning offers a new experience for truck owners, all within the same price range as traditional F-150 models. It also provides enthusiasts with new electric capabilities, including:

  • Ability to power an entire home
  • Large, lockable front trunk with backup electric capabilities

Ford will continue to update the truck wirelessly using its innovative Ford Power-Ups program, enhancing the technological experience and adding new features or fixing issues without the need for a service visit. All these features are supported by Ford’s rugged design and high capabilities, along with the widest network of charging stations in North America.

Jim Farley, President and CEO of Ford, noted: "The F-150 Lightning is a significant achievement for our team, marking the first American automaker to transition the country’s favorite truck into a zero-emission electric version. The new truck is faster than the Raptor, features standard four-wheel drive, an independent rear suspension, and an electric front trunk capable of powering a home for three days or even a large trailer. The truck will continue to evolve technologically after purchase thanks to its wireless updates. We will manufacture this truck at the Rouge plant, where Henry Ford captured the world's attention. The F-150 Lightning is a living testament to what we can achieve through hard work and innovation."

Performance and Specifications

The F-150 Lightning aims to deliver a performance output of 563 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of immediate torque, the highest of any F-150 truck. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in approximately four and a half seconds when equipped with the long-range battery, based on standard automotive criteria. In addition:

  • Maximum payload capacity reaches 2,000 lbs in the base model with 18-inch wheels
  • Maximum towing capacity of 10,000 lbs in XLT and Lariat trims with the long-range battery and maximum trailer tow package

The low center of gravity enhances confidence when handling the maximum trailer tow capacity, whether driving on wet roads or across sandy terrains.

Kumar Galhotra, President of Ford's North American Markets and International Markets, emphasized: "Ford is committed to delivering the F-150 Lightning to everyone, empowering them to solve their challenges efficiently, thanks to the integrated feature set it offers, along with its high capabilities from Ford's rugged design, direct torque, and strong towing capacity, enabling customers to rely on it for numerous tasks."
