Hyundai's Success at the GOOD DESIGN Awards
Hyundai Motors has announced its remarkable achievement of winning four GOOD DESIGN Awards this year. The company's advanced electric vehicle concepts, represented by the 45 and Prophecy models, secured two of these awards. Additionally, the all-new 2021 Elantra and the Hyundai Hi-Charger, a vital infrastructure for electric vehicle charging, also received recognition in the transportation category.
Statements from the Head of Global Design Center
On this occasion, Sang Yup Lee, Head of Hyundai's Global Design Center, stated: "We consider winning these awards as a recognition of Hyundai's exceptional design vision, which aims to provide modern and advanced mobility solutions that align with individuals' lifestyles, particularly through our electric vehicle designs. These designs are rooted in our desire to create a strong bond between people and cars, adding value to our customers' daily lives."
Concept 45 EV
The Concept 45 EV was first unveiled at the 2019 International Motor Show in Frankfurt, inspired by one of Hyundai's most famous models in its history, the Pony Coupe. The 45 model is characterized by:
- A monocoque structure with a focus on lightweight design and high aerodynamics.
- Clear lines and a lightweight, simple design inspired by aircraft.
- A front and rear tilt of 45 degrees, creating shadows resembling a gem.
Global Design Awards
The 45 model shone earlier this year as it participated in other globally renowned design competitions, including:
- 2020 International Design Excellence Awards.
- 2020 Red Dot Awards.
- 2020 iF Design Award.
Winning these awards raises expectations for the upcoming IONIQ 5, which is set to be Hyundai's first dedicated electric vehicle under the new IONIQ brand, launching next year.
Hyundai Prophecy
The Hyundai Prophecy, unveiled last March, reflects Hyundai's advanced vision for future electric vehicle design, showcasing a sensuous sportiness identity through its streamlined shape and superior performance. This year, the Prophecy won the "Best of the Best" award at the Red Dot Awards and was also selected as a finalist for the International Design Excellence Awards.
Hyundai Elantra 2021
The all-new 2021 Hyundai Elantra, which debuted earlier this year, secured another accolade from the GOOD DESIGN Awards. The seventh generation of the Elantra features an innovative futuristic appearance, thanks to its Parametric Dynamics design elements.
Unique design features include:
- A jewel-like front grille.
- A rear light shaped like the letter H, creating a "Flying H" appearance.
- A 10-inch information display and infotainment system.
Hi-Charger
The Hi-Charger underscores Hyundai's commitment to providing a completely new charging experience for electric vehicle owners. This high-speed charger, rated at 350 kilowatts, allows users to power their electric vehicles with ease.
Key features of the charger include:
- A digital screen to choose the vehicle's charging port position.
- Rotating the connector to easily reach the designated connection point.
Earlier this year, the Hi-Charger won an award in the user experience design category at the Red Dot Design Awards 2020.
Celebrating the GOOD DESIGN Program
This year, the GOOD DESIGN program celebrates its 70th anniversary, making it one of the oldest design competitions in the world. Each year, the program selects a list of products and industry leaders in design and manufacturing that have introduced new trends in innovation and brought competitive products to the global market.
