Hyundai’s Strategic Direction in Hydrogen Technologies
Regarding Hyundai’s strategic focus on hydrogen technology, Mr. Hyung Jung Im, President of Hyundai Motor Middle East and Africa, stated: “Twenty years ago, Hyundai Motor established a dedicated research team to develop fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) technology. Milestones: The World’s First Mass-Produced FCEV
In 2013, Hyundai introduced its first FCEV—the Santa Fe Fuel Cell. This model represented the world’s first mass-produced fuel cell vehicle, marking a new era in Hyundai’s development of fuel cell technology. Since then, this technology has been integrated into several models, such as the NEXO, which is based on the innovative FE Fuel Cell concept.
Next-Generation Hydrogen Vehicles and Advanced Fuel Cell Systems

Fuel Cell Vision 2030: Hyundai’s Long-Term Roadmap
In December 2018, Hyundai Motor unveiled its “Fuel Cell Vision 2030,” a long-term roadmap underscoring its commitment to advancing the hydrogen society. The plan aims to secure an annual production capacity of 700,000 fuel cell systems for vehicles and other industries—including ships, rail cars, drones, and power generators—by 2030.
