Hyundai Secures Four GOOD DESIGN Awards for Innovative EV Concepts and Future Mobility Solutions
Hyundai Triumphs at the GOOD DESIGN Awards 2020
Hyundai Motors has announced its remarkable achievement of winning four GOOD DESIGN Awards this year. The brand’s most advanced electric vehicle (EV) concepts, the Hyundai 45 and Prophecy, each received an award, while in the transportation category, the all-new 2021 Hyundai Elantra and the Hyundai Hi-Charger—an innovative EV charging infrastructure—were also recognized.
Design Recognition and Vision
On this occasion, SangYup Lee, Head of Hyundai’s Global Design Center, stated: “We consider these awards a true recognition of Hyundai's exceptional design vision. Our approach delivers modern and advanced mobility solutions that complement contemporary lifestyles, especially through our electric vehicle designs. Our aim is to create a strong bond between people and cars, enhancing our customers’ daily lives with added value.”
Hyundai 45 EV Concept: A Nod to the Past, Designed for the Future
The Hyundai 45 EV concept debuted at the 2019 Frankfurt International Motor Show, drawing inspiration from one of the brand’s most iconic models—the Hyundai Pony Coupe. Built on a monocoque structure, the 45 emphasizes lightweight design and advanced aerodynamics, featuring clear lines and a minimalist, aircraft-inspired aesthetic. Both the front and rear are angled at 45 degrees, creating jewel-like shadow effects that define its distinct character.
Global Acclaim for the Hyundai 45
Earlier this year, the Hyundai 45 captured attention at renowned international design competitions, including the 2020 International Design Excellence Awards, Red Dot 2020, and the iF Design Award 2020. With each accolade, expectations are rising for the upcoming IONIQ 5, Hyundai’s first dedicated electric vehicle under the new IONIQ brand, set for launch next year.
Hyundai Prophecy: Sensuous Sportiness and Award-Winning Design
Revealed in March, the Hyundai Prophecy embodies the brand’s advanced vision for the future of electric vehicle design. Showcasing the “Sensuous Sportiness” philosophy, Prophecy boasts a streamlined silhouette and outstanding performance, characterized by clear lines and a simplified body structure. In 2020, Prophecy was honored with the “Best of the Best” award at Red Dot and was a finalist at the International Design Excellence Awards.
The All-New Hyundai Elantra 2021: Redefining Modern Design
The completely redesigned 2021 Hyundai Elantra made its debut earlier this year, earning another GOOD DESIGN Award. The seventh-generation Elantra features an innovative, futuristic appearance, highlighted by Parametric Dynamics design elements. Unique exterior features include a jewel-shaped front grille and an H-shaped rear light signature that creates the effect of a “flying H.” The interior complements Elantra’s overall appeal with a 10-inch digital display cluster and a cutting-edge infotainment system.
Hyundai Hi-Charger: Revolutionizing EV Charging Experience
The Hyundai Hi-Charger underscores the brand’s commitment to delivering a completely new charging experience for EV owners. With a high-speed 350 kW charging capability, users can easily power their electric vehicles without the burden of heavy connectors and cables. By selecting the charging port position on a digital screen, the connector automatically rotates and lowers to the specified point for effortless connection. Earlier this year, the Hi-Charger also received recognition in the User Experience Design category at the Red Dot Design Awards 2020.
