Ineos Automotive is a European automaker that manufactures just a couple of models. If you want to own a rugged off-road car, albeit one that is not common, then this London-based brand has you covered. Even though the parent company – Ineos Group Limited has been around since the late 1990s – Ineos Automotive has been in the limelight since late 2022. While the Grenadier Station Wagon was the first, we are currently interested in the new Grenadier Quartermaster Pickup.

First unveiled back in July 2023, the Grenadier Quartermaster Chassis Cab was whispered to be the pickup truck version of the Ineos Grenadier SUV. While there is some truth to that, the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster Pickup is not exactly a carbon copy of the brand’s pre-existing SUV model. According to Ineos Automotive, the new Grenadier Quartermaster Pickup can be had in variants that include commercial applications, emergency services, and leisure activities.

Speaking about this car was George Ratcliffe, Commercial Director, INEOS Automotive. Ratcliffe stated as follows, “In the first year since the Grenadier launched we have already seen a number of specialist conversions, particularly with emergency services such as fire, police and inshore rescue, so launching the Quartermaster Chassis Cab is a natural step that takes our off-road expertise into many commercial areas that need a class leading 4X4.”

Exterior

Just like its SUV sibling, the exterior design of the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster Chassis Cab Pickup promotes ruggedness and off-roadability over chicness and aerodynamics. The flat front fascia is almost identical to that of the Grenadier Station Wagon, featuring circular headlamps, foglights housed in the main grille, additional intakes above & below the grille, a front bumper that juts out unabashedly, while the lower apron consists of dual tow hooks and a heavy-duty bash plate.

The rugged appearance of the Grenadier Quartermaster Pickup continues on to its side, where the steel wheels, exposed door hinges & bolts, protection strips along the roof & doors, flared fenders with deep wheel arches, and metal bars where the main bed exists. The rear of the Ineos pickup looks pretty straightforward, featuring circular LED taillights, a simplistic bumper with integrated tow hooks, and a bottom-hinged tailgate boasting a large ‘Grenadier’ branding.

Depending on the variant, the Grenadier Quartermaster Pickup can be equipped with a snorkel, 18-inch alloy wheels, and roof-mounted ‘Safari’ windows. Many may equate the overall styling of the Quartermaster Pickup to be that of a combination of the design of the old Land Rover Defender and the Mercedes G-Wagon, especially when viewed from the front and/or front three-quarter. That said, the Grenadier Quartermaster Pickup has just the right amount of modernity that is mixed together with the boxy DNA, which is the main recipe for an old-school off-road vehicle.

Interior

The interior of the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster Chassis Cab is one that would be loved by a lot of those who peek inside the cabin. Some design attributes here can be compared with those found in the new Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon or a Jeep Wrangler – that is to say, this interior looks and feels positively modern.

One of the first things that most people will notice here is the lack of a traditional gauge cluster, but in its place, there is a small screen displaying system information. This little screen will show the driver the status of the car’s mechanical and safety-related systems, including the status of the exterior lights and even the seatbelts. Since its size is diminutive, there could be times when you may not be able to absorb as much information as you want to with just one glance.

On the other hand, the widescreen center display offers multiple information – it shows the vehicle’s current speed and gear selection, among a multitude of other important vehicle-related data. The functional dashboard houses a compass with a digital read-out, easy-to-use AC vents with stylish circular side units, and two grab handles in front of the front passenger. The ‘Grenadier’ branded steering wheel is leather-wrapped and looks nice, though there is an old-school keyed engine-starting system.

Then there is the center stack of the Grenadier Quartermaster, which has a lot of exposed screws, which definitely add to this car’s rugged personality. This section of the dashboard consists of rotary dials and two-way switches, with LED info in the middle of this switchgear – even the centrally-located hazard lights button looks cool. Further down, we have three levers. One is for the handbrake, the other is for the BMW-borrowed gear selector, and the last one handles the different modes of the 4WD system.

The Grenadier Quartermaster Pickup also gets buttons and switches integrated into an overhead panel, handling a multitude of interior & exterior functions, as found in an aircraft. There is a metallic dial behind the levers on the center stack, which controls the main infotainment system and its various modes & selections. The comfortable Recaro seats can be leather-upholstered with a heating function and a stitching effect, while there is a ton of headroom and shoulder room, partnered with plenty of greenhouse all around.

Equipment

Considering that it is a proper 4x4, the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster Pickup Chassis Cab is equipped with several useful technologies that make this one of the most modern utility vehicles on sale right now. Depending on the variant, the Grenadier Quartermaster can be had with features like LED headlights, auxiliary LED lights, dedicated Off-Road & Wading Modes, Central Control System, and Park Assist Front & Rear (PDC) sensors.

The Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster comes with ADAS or Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. This pickup truck’s ADAS features include Intelligent Speed Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Driver Drowsiness Detection. The Grenadier Quartermaster also gets heated door mirrors, heated windscreen washers, puddle lamps, ambient interior lighting, a premium audio system, Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, and multiple power outlets all around.

Powertrain

The Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster Pickup in the UAE is powered by a 3.0-liter straight-six turbocharged petrol engine provided by BMW, which generates 282 hp and 450 Nm of torque. The engine transmits its power to all four wheels through a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox, which can then route its oomph through a dedicated two-speed transfer case and a center differential for better traction, no matter the terrain.

Of course, a butch body-on-frame off-roader like the Grenadier Quartermaster is not going to be really fast – it can go from 0 to 100 km/h in around 9 seconds. Meanwhile, the top speed is around 160 km/h. It is not rapid, but the Grenadier Quartermaster Pickup earns its keep when you take it off the beaten path. That is where you know you perhaps bought the right equipment for the job.
