2018 Jaguar E-Pace Review

Introduction

Sophistication, style, and sport are the words I would use to describe the Jaguar E-Pace 2018. A beauty that turns heads wherever she goes, the E-Pace is currently the smallest SUV in the brand’s line-up and competes with the likes of the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Volvo XC40.

Exterior

Jaguar E-Pace 2018 Front

The E-Pace is an ideal luxury crossover with subtle hints of a sedan and an SUV rolled into one. She has a perky base but doesn’t sit high up like a regular SUV. What she lacks in height, she compensates with a vibrant blue color, a sight for sore eyes. However, she’s not the kind of vehicle that fights for attention on the road; she simply commands it.

Interior

Jaguar E-Pace 2018 Interior

The interior of the E-Pace is simple and minimalistic in nature. Despite being part of the same company and using much of the same hardware, Land Rover seems to have better luck than Jaguar in creating interiors that feel rich and sophisticated. Most of the center console is made of plastic, detracting from the overall luxurious appearance.

The E-Pace seats five and comes standard with cloth upholstery. Options include:

  • Leather upholstery
  • 10-, 14-, or 18-way power-adjustable front seats
  • Heated and cooled front seats
  • Heated rear seats
  • Heated steering wheel

There are two full sets of LATCH connectors for installing car seats. The front seats are wide and comfortable, providing all-day support, though legroom is slightly constricted by the front wheel wells. The rear-seat setup is vertically oriented, offering ample headroom but limited legroom. Additionally, the E-Pace offers twenty-four cubic feet (680 liters) of cargo space, easily surpassing most competitors.

Features

Jaguar E-Pace 2018 Side

In terms of safety, the Jaguar E-Pace offers:

  • Forward-collision warning
  • Low-speed automatic emergency braking
  • Lane-keeping assist

These features come standard on all versions of the E-Pace. Front and rear parking sensors also come standard, which are handy in a vehicle with limited rear and side visibility. Other advanced safety features include:

  • High-speed automatic emergency braking
  • Blind-spot warning
  • Adaptive cruise control

For tech-savvy drivers, the E-Pace features a colorful 12.3-inch infotainment system that integrates Jaguar's intuitive InControl Touch Pro operating system. This system allows for phone integration, porting some apps to the infotainment screen to reduce distractions while driving.

Drive

Jaguar E-Pace 2018 Rear

Engine-wise, the E-Pace offers two turbocharged, four-cylinder engines paired with standard all-wheel drive. On the roads of the UAE, the E-Pace feels small and light, despite being heavier than its bigger counterpart, the F-Pace. This vehicle is smooth and has excellent noise reduction, ensuring a hassle-free drive. Don’t underestimate the power of her small steering wheel; she navigates corners eagerly and responsively, while the taut suspension minimizes body lean.

Verdict

Jaguar E-Pace 2018 Rear - 2

I was practically sold on the Jaguar E-Pace due to its attractive looks and safety features, but the pricing for the R-Dynamic HSE was a surprise. Starting at a whopping AED 231,420, the E-Pace is tempting, but its price point is certainly a consideration.
