2019 Jeep Compass Review: Features and Performance

Introduction

While in Italy, we drove the refreshed 2019 Jeep Compass. To be completely honest, my expectations weren't high, but after driving it for quite a long time, particularly off-road, it truly captured my admiration.

Off-Road Capabilities

The tested version was the Trailhawk, which means it’s capable enough to handle almost any off-road scenario. The 2019 Compass excels in difficult terrains, whether it’s sand, mud, rocks, or water. It certainly impressed me and brought a smile to my face while navigating the off-road track.

With the 2019 Compass, you will feel confident enough to take family or friends off the beaten path while enjoying comfort and quality on the road.

Design

Being a Jeep, the Compass showcases the signature design with the seven-slot grille and trapezoidal wheel arch. The muscular balance achieved through its design elements adds more excitement compared to its competition.

Engine and Performance

Under the hood, the 2019 Jeep Compass features a 2.4-liter petrol engine that delivers 180 HP, connected to a 9-speed automatic transmission. If you are new to driving a car with a 9-speed transmission, it may take some time to adjust. However, driving in 'Low' mode surprised me with its power and speed capabilities.

Off-Road Features

The Compass Trailhawk is designed for off-road adventures with:

• 17-inch off-road wheels
• Red rear tow hook
• Unique front and rear design
• 30-degree approach angle
• 24.4-degree breakover angle
• 33.6-degree departure angle

Additionally, it includes Trailhawk’s Selec-Terrain system, which features Selec-Speed Control with Hill-descent Control.

Infotainment and Connectivity

For those who can't drive without connecting their phones, the Compass comes equipped with the latest generation of Uconnect (FCA's infotainment system), compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This allows for hands-free phone usage, navigation, and voice texting, among other features you'll be eager to showcase to friends.
