Accident Details
In an unfortunate turn of events, Maha Al-Hamli experienced a horrific accident in the Empty Quarter Desert, resulting in her withdrawal from the Dakar Rally 2024 in Saudi Arabia. The incident occurred just before the end of the sixth stage, only eight days after the start of the prestigious race.
The accident involved Maha's vehicle crashing forcefully into one of the sand dunes, causing significant damage. Thankfully, both Maha and her navigator survived, although they sustained some bruises.
Reactions and Assistance
In a special interview, Maha expressed her gratitude to Saudi hero Hani Al-Nomsi, who immediately stopped to help her and her navigator. He left his own vehicle to assist them before the rescue teams and emergency helicopter arrived. Maha conveyed her thankfulness and satisfaction to God for surviving this tragic incident.
Medical Follow-Up and Support
Upon reaching the National Guard Hospital in Riyadh, Maha was pleasantly surprised when Princess Dr. Ahd bint Al-Hassan Al Saud, head of the medical administration at the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, personally followed up on her condition.
Prince Khalid bin Sultan Abdullah Al Faisal, Chairman of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, also visited Maha to express his condolences and emphasize his deep concern for her safety and well-being.
Withdrawal from Dakar Rally 2024
Due to the severe damage to Maha's vehicle and the difficulty in repairing it, the brave champion had no choice but to withdraw from the Dakar Rally 2024 in Saudi Arabia this year. We wish Maha Al-Hamli a strong return next year, sending our best wishes for her health and continued safety.
