Fresh on the heels of the global launch of the Mercedes-AMG GT R that had petrolheads around the globe in awe, the German manufacturer sends out an order to stop the sale of all Mercedes-AMG GT S models and recalls 135 units for an issue with the driveshaft.

Believed to be caused by improper cleaning methods, the driveshaft possesses the risk of coming apart and hindering acceleration. Not the best news for an automaker whose offering vies to compete with the hard-as-nails drivetrain of the Porsche 911.
What differentiates the driveshaft of the Mercedes-AMG GT S from several other offerings, is that it is created from carbon fiber and not standard steel. Vehicles such as the BMW M3 and M4 feature the technology because of its reduced overall weight and improved acceleration.

In the case of the Mercedes-AMG GT S, the driveshaft was probably not cleaned well enough before it was bonded to the transmission flange. In turn, this could cause the adhesive to fail and separate the two. Models affected are those manufactured between 1st June and 24th July of 2015. Affected owners will be contacted by their respective dealers directly.
