Mercedes-Maybach EQS Concept: A Luxurious Future
Rolls-Royce and Bentley have long been considered paradigms of luxury. Built to exquisite detail, these cars represent the epitome of refinement, space, and exclusivity—qualities that buyers in this esoteric monopsony market cherish. The bespoke designs, durable hue shades, and powerful yet hushed engines are just a few aspects that make these vehicles so desirable, creating dreams of ownership among enthusiasts.
Recently, an old name resurrected by Mercedes-Benz has been making headlines with cars that stand proudly beside these luxury icons: Maybach. Following the success of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and the critically acclaimed Mercedes-Maybach GLS, the brand presents its third offering in the upper-luxury segment: the Mercedes-Maybach EQS concept. This vehicle is close to production and offers insights into the future of the brand, preserving core luxury traits while seamlessly integrating modern trends.
Design
One glance at the car reveals the signature Maybach design cues. The vehicle embraces the brand's latest 'purpose design' philosophy, featuring a dual-tone exterior in red and blue, long vertical grille lines signifying its EV credentials, and chunky wheels—traits synonymous with every Maybach. The chrome accents near the fog lamp area impart a bold charm, while the diamond blocks framed with fine-knit mesh on the headlights enhance visibility.
Similar to the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, it features bulky overhangs on either side, with the recognizable Maybach insignia positioned after the C-pillar. The chunky window glass silhouette adds to its solid road presence.
The rear design pays homage to the EQC with its single-piece swept-back LED lamps. A unique detail includes a sunken glass area, creating an illusion of a rear spoiler. Additionally, the chrome-plated pinstripe at both the front and rear enhances the car's posh and meticulously finished appearance.
Interior
The designers at Mercedes-Benz crafted an interior that reflects the brand's luxury heritage. The concept showcases a regal yet contemporary design, emphasizing a 'futuristic' theme. The virtual interior aims to create a lounge-like experience for occupants, with ergonomically designed front seats offering ample legroom, a floating console for the latest MBUX infotainment system, and minimalistic keys. Noteworthy features include a chunky steering wheel for ease of grip and ambient lighting in subtle shades of blue.
The floor features a “faux-fur” covering, allowing occupants to relax their legs. The rear compartment design is particularly impressive, featuring a vase outline that showcases exquisite craftsmanship. Captain seats with individual entertainment screens provide a luxurious experience.
To cater to the needs of discerning occupants, there is a storage compartment for utensils, folding tables, champagne goblets, and a refrigerated compartment, all highlighted by rose-gold accents that contribute to the luxurious ambiance.
The 12.3” OLED display for the front passenger provides an individual control area. The advanced MBUX infotainment system offers customized infotainment, comfort, and vehicle functions, including charge and range data through the EQ menu. This platform may also be adapted for future SUVs. The vehicle boasts a range of 600 km before requiring a charge.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS concept presents a luxurious and futuristic vision of the brand's future, appealing to modern buyers while maintaining its core luxury traits.
