Details of the Project
To facilitate traffic between Dubai and Sharjah, a 12-kilometer alternative road is set to open next month. This new project connects the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road, which is expected to reduce traffic by approximately 30%.
Significance of the Project
By diverting traffic from:
- The congested Union Street
- Beirut Street
- Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road
The new road will enable drivers to reach Emirates Road more quickly via Mirdif through Tripoli Street.
Officials' Statements
Matar Al Tayer, Chairman and Director General of the Roads and Transport Authority, stated: "The project will increase road capacity by about 12,000 vehicles per hour in both directions and reduce traffic volume by 30%. Upon completion, it will serve as a parallel route to the Al Amardi - Al Khawaneej Road and the Al Aweer - Ras Al Khor Road."
Additional Expansions
As part of the developments, Tripoli Street will be expanded over a length of 6.5 kilometers, from the Mirdif City Centre intersection to the Academic City intersection, in addition to:
- Constructing a new 5.3-kilometer road with three lanes on each side from Academic City to Emirates Road.
- Creating the route from a tunnel and three overpasses.
This development will ensure uninterrupted traffic flow for 6,000 vehicles per hour in each direction.
