General Information
Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), inaugurated a new car license plate factory in Deira, Dubai. This factory is the first of its kind in the world, utilizing robots for production with a capacity of up to 33,000 plates per day—a significant increase compared to the current production rate of 3,000 plates per day.
Advantages of the New Factory
The factory, designed and built by the German company Tönnjes Middle East GMBH, offers numerous advantages, including:
- Production of license plates with a zero-error margin.
- Manufacturing a license plate in just 15 seconds, compared to 120 seconds with the old system.
- Printing up to six different types of vehicle plates at any given time.
Technologies Used
The robots employ a range of artificial intelligence systems and an electronic licensing system, enabling them to operate without human intervention. In the coming years, the RTA plans to install 10 machines of this type at service provider locations, all controlled from a central factory.
Tracking the License Plate Lifecycle
The system tracks the lifecycle of the license plate from manufacturing to decommissioning using a QR code attached to the plate.
