Polestar is taking its flagship electric SUV to the next level with the 2026 Polestar 3. The Swedish brand has confirmed that the updated model will adopt an 800-volt electrical system, bringing quicker charging, improved efficiency, and more refined performance. 

Faster Charging and Improved Range

The move to an 800-volt system means the 2026 Polestar 3 can now accept up to 350 kW of DC fast charging. That allows the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just about 22 minutes, which is significantly quicker than the outgoing model. The onboard 11 kW AC charger remains the same, but the higher-voltage setup ensures less heat buildup and improved overall efficiency.

Polestar also claims the dual-motor setup can now disconnect the front motor when it’s not needed, reducing drag losses and helping extend the car’s driving range. The brand estimates a 6 percent improvement in efficiency compared to the previous model.

More Power Across the Lineup

Performance has also taken a step up. The entry-level rear-motor version now produces around 329 horsepower, while the dual-motor variant delivers roughly 536 horsepower. At the top of the range, the Performance trim generates about 671 horsepower, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in a claimed 3.8 seconds.

Interestingly, the new Polestar 3 has a slightly smaller battery pack than before, but the higher efficiency of the 800-volt system makes up for the difference. This setup ensures that despite the reduction in battery capacity, real-world range numbers see a modest gain.

Hardware and Software Refinements

Beyond the powertrain updates, Polestar has tweaked several mechanical and electronic systems. The suspension setup features revised anti-roll bars and improved steering calibration for better road feel. 

Inside, the SUV gets an upgraded Nvidia Drive AGX Orin processor, which is said to be eight times more powerful than the outgoing system. This boosts the EV’s computing power for driver-assist systems and infotainment features.

The design changes are minimal, with a new gray paint shade called “Storm” replacing the previous “Thunder.” Subtle badge revisions and sustainable interior materials further underline Polestar’s focus on clean Scandinavian aesthetics.

Price and Availability

Polestar hasn’t shared exact pricing details yet, but the 2025 model currently starts around $69,000 (US) and goes up to about $81,000 depending on configuration.
