Nissan GT-R Nismo Review: A Legacy of Performance

The Nissan GT-R. Does it need any description? Emphatically, No. It’s a car that has built a wonderful legacy since 1969 and has entirely transformed the fate of Nissan in racing. It produces such a growl that it is no less than music to the ears, capturing the interest of millions of enthusiasts everywhere. With the Nismo, Nissan aims to master the reputed and capable sports coupe. We find out if the sixth generation R35 update brings drastic changes to the car or if it is just a badge with some cosmetic updates.

If you’re in the market for a beautiful looking coupe, the Nissan GT-R Nismo might not be as spectacular to look at as its rivals. It features an extremely functional design that incorporates only those materials which contribute to improved aerodynamics. From the front, it looks exactly like the standard GT-R, except for the Nismo badging on the V-motion grille and red outlines along the air intakes, bumpers, side skirts, and wing mirrors.

Nissan has cleverly utilized a matte-black carbon fiber finish to distinguish it from the standard model, which helps in shaving off weight. The BREMBO brake calipers are instantly recognizable. However, the hunkered down stance of the car might not appeal to everyone.

The fenders include massive air intakes, which are the only distinguishing factors from the standard GT-R. The rest of the side profile is clean, avoiding any unnecessary decals for a sportier look.

The rear flaunts a huge black spoiler to increase downforce, complemented by rounded tail lamps. Unique blue accents on the tips of the exhaust pipes give it a racy appearance. The car measures 4671 mm in length, 1895 mm in width, 1369 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2780 mm.

Interior

Inside, the Nissan GT-R Nismo exudes sophistication with an infotainment screen that displays instantaneous power transmitted to the wheels, torque usage graphs, engine oil temperature, and pressure. While not necessarily useful at lunatic speeds, this information is beneficial for those who understand physics.

The dashboard is likely to feature alcantara, which also masks the steering wheel and round turbine-like AC vents. Beneath this, leather with sporty red stitching adds to the interior's appeal. The center console houses the usual knobs for automatic climate control and modes such as comfort and sport. However, the interior, while comfortable, is not as awe-inspiring as its rivals, which include:

Engine and Performance

The Nissan GT-R Nismo makes an exhilarating 600 hp and 652 Nm of torque from its 3.8-liter V6 engine. This power makes it more vehement than the Porsche Carrera GTS and one of the fastest, achieving 0-100 Km/h in a claimed 2.9 seconds. The engine is paired with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which is likely to shift blisteringly fast when the car is put to its limits, especially in Race (R) mode.

Verdict

Nissan GT R verdict

The Nissan GT-R has aged gracefully over the years, consistently proving its prowess as a comfortable yet nimble sports coupe. Priced on par with its rivals (AED 708,500), the GT-R might not be as thrilling to drive as its competitors and may look a bit dated in today’s market. However, its enduring emotional connection with enthusiasts and its legendary lap time records continue to make a compelling case for this iconic model.
