Introduction

After a successful trial period that allowed vehicle registrations and crossings through the newly installed toll gates without any charges, January 2, 2020, marks the date when drivers in Abu Dhabi will start paying toll fees when driving within or passing through the capital.

System Details

Payment Times

Unlike the Salik toll gates implemented in Dubai, drivers in Abu Dhabi will only need to pay during peak hours and can pass through for free during regular hours. Specifically, drivers are required to pay during the following periods:

  • From 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM
  • From 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Saturday to Thursday

Vehicle Registration Fees

The cost for vehicle registration is set at 100 AED, with 50 AED of this amount credited to the user's account. Additionally:

  • People with disabilities
  • Senior Emirati citizens
  • Low-income Emiratis
  • Retired Emiratis

Are exempt from paying the fees. Furthermore:

  • Taxi vehicles
  • Public buses
  • Towing vehicles
  • Electric vehicles
  • Motorcycles
  • Public buses with 26 seats or more

Are also exempt from the fees.

Toll Gates

Currently, there are four toll gates around the city of Abu Dhabi, located at:

  • Sheikh Zayed Bridge
  • Sheikh Khalifa Bridge
  • Al Maqta Bridge
  • Musaffah Bridge

The toll fee is set at 4 AED, with a maximum of 16 AED per vehicle per day.
