Qatar Insurance Company and Qatar Mobility have joined hands to bring new road safety features to the general public by introducing new car insurance offers via built-in apps. A special device will be used in the vehicle to assess driving styles. This device will collect various datasets including harsh acceleration/deceleration, over-speeding and distance driven. These datasets will be plugged into Masarak’s Intelligent Telematics Platform via iFleet (cloud based system) to generate a scorecard which will show drivers’ ranks as compared to other drivers. This scorecard will help in making the new Pay-How-You-Drive insurance plan move forward. The new plan, as the name suggests, will judge the driving habits and accordingly increase the insurance premium. If the driver has a good scorecard then the insurance will be cheap and vice versa. The whole idea behind this initiative is to increase road safety.
