2019 Audi Q7 Review: Luxury and Performance Redefined
The Audi Q7 marks Audi’s inaugural venture into the mass-market SUV segment. Launched in late 2005, the first-generation Q7 quickly became one of Audi's top-selling models. As a luxury crossover SUV, the Q7 shares its platform with the VW Touareg. Until recently, it served as the flagship model for Audi, a title now held by the Q8.
The first-generation model enjoyed nearly a decade of production without significant changes. The all-new, second-generation Audi Q7 debuted in 2015, introducing numerous enhancements. Built on the VW Group’s MLB platform, the new Q7 shed over 300 kilograms, making it a far superior vehicle compared to its predecessor. In the UAE market, it competes against formidable rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Volvo XC90, and Range Rover Sport.
Exterior Design
The 2019 Audi Q7 showcases a significantly sharper design compared to its predecessor. The weight reduction is evident, giving the Q7 a sleek, tailored appearance. However, I personally preferred the bulkier proportions of the earlier model.
The front of the 2019 Q7 features Audi’s iconic large ‘Singleframe’ grille, stylish LED headlamps with striking LED daytime running lights (DRLs), and a wide, aggressively molded bumper. Although the new model's wagon-like side and rear profile might seem less imposing, the elegant 19-inch alloy wheels, flared fenders, and sharp body creases contribute to its cool aesthetic. The rear design includes large, modern LED taillights, a sleek roof-mounted spoiler, and a sporty bumper with twin exhaust pipes.
Specifications
The dimensions of the 2019 Audi Q7 are as follows:
- Length: 5.052 meters
- Width: 2.212 meters
- Height: 1.741 meters
- Wheelbase: 2.994 meters
The five-seater Audi Q7 boasts an impressive total boot capacity of 890 liters.
Interior Features
In contrast to the exterior, the interior design of the 2019 Audi Q7 has no drawbacks. It offers a modern, contemporary, and sophisticated layout compared to its predecessor. The cabin features clean lines, a minimalistic design, and a driver-focused cockpit, making it a luxurious and comfortable space. The seats are exceptionally comfortable, complemented by excellent cabin insulation against noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH).
The 2019 Q7 excels in material quality, build, and fit and finish. Its feature list includes:
- Audi’s Virtual Cockpit driver’s display
- Automatic Matrix LED headlamps
- Panoramic glass roof
- Radar cruise control
- Adaptive suspension
- Automatic multi-zone climate control
- Heated and cooled power front seats
- Power tailgate
- 8.3-inch Audi MMI infotainment display with navigation
- Bang & Olufsen premium sound system
The Q7’s standard safety kit encompasses nearly all of Audi's advanced safety technologies.
Engine and Performance
The 2019 Audi Q7 is equipped with either a 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a 3.0-liter six-cylinder petrol engine, available in the 40 and 45 TFSI variants, respectively. The smaller engine generates 252 hp and 370 Nm, while the V6 produces 333 hp and 440 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 2019 Q7 (45 TFSI) can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds, with a top speed limited to 250 km/h. Its fuel economy is rated at approximately 8.0 L/100 km.
Conclusion
The price range for the 2019 Audi Q7 is between 268,000 dirhams and 345,000 dirhams. Insurance costs vary by trim level, ranging from AED 6,030 to AED 7,763.
