Closure of the Floating Bridge in Dubai for Marine Transport
Details of the Closure
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced the closure of the Floating Bridge (measuring 365 meters long and 22 meters wide) on Fridays from 10 PM on Thursday until 6 AM on Saturday. This closure aims to facilitate increased marine transport operations and allow ships to pass through Dubai Creek. A senior official at the RTA confirmed that crossing the Al Maktoum Bridge during this time will be exempt from Salik fees.
Official Statements
The Executive Director of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the RTA, Engineer Maitha bin Adai, stated: “The closure of the Floating Bridge will coincide with free access to Al Maktoum Bridge during the closure hours. This decision is based on traffic studies conducted by specialists who confirmed that Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Garhoud Bridge, and Shindagha Tunnel can accommodate traffic during the closure.”
History of the Floating Bridge
The Floating Bridge was inaugurated on July 16, 2007, as an alternative route for those who wish to avoid Salik roads. It connects to the intersection near Deira City Center with Riyadh Street, situated between Dubai Courts and Dubai Creek Park. The massive Union Bridge, which will replace the Floating Bridge, consists of 12 lanes and is expected to be completed by late 2018.
