First Electric Bus in the Middle East Launched by Masdar in Abu Dhabi

Announcement of the Electric Bus
Today, Abu Dhabi's Masdar announced the launch of the first electric bus in the Middle East, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, Bus Manufacturing Company, and Siemens Middle East.
Details of the Electric Bus Route
The electric bus route includes six stops, connecting Marina Mall to the main bus station in Abu Dhabi and Masdar City. The fare will be free until March 2019.
Importance of Masdar City
Yusuf Basly, the Executive Director of Sustainable Urban Development at Masdar, stated, "Since its inauguration in 2008, Masdar City has played a key role in fostering and developing innovations and sustainable technologies in transportation. It includes a personal rapid transit system and autonomous Navya vehicles. We are now working to extend sustainable mobility solutions beyond Masdar City to benefit a broader segment of the community."
Design of the Electric Bus
The electric bus is designed to withstand the harsh weather conditions of the region, which pose significant challenges to the performance and efficiency of electric vehicles. The bus was developed through collaboration between Masdar, Bus Manufacturing Company, and Siemens Middle East. It features 30 seats and can travel up to 150 kilometers on a single charge, equipped with solar panels to power auxiliary systems within the bus.
