Ford Celebrates Production of the 10 Millionth Mustang
Ford is celebrating the production of the 10 millionth Mustang, the world's best-selling sports car for the third consecutive year and the top-selling sports car in America over the past 50 years.
About the Car
The 10 millionth Mustang is a highly advanced 2019 GT convertible, finished in a sleek white with a black interior. It features a powerful V8 engine that delivers 460 horsepower and is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. Additionally, it boasts the latest driver-assist technologies and was manufactured at Ford's Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan.
The first Mustang, bearing the serial number (VIN 001), was produced in 1964, featuring the same color and model with a V8 engine that produced 164 horsepower and a three-speed manual transmission.
Statements from Ford
Jim Farley, President of Global Markets at Ford Motor Company, stated:
"The Mustang is the heartbeat of this company and the world's favorite car. I still feel the same excitement seeing a Mustang on the streets of Detroit, London, or Beijing as I did when I bought my first car, a 1966 Mustang coupe, which I drove across the country during my teenage years. The Mustang puts a smile on your face in every language."
Mustang Sales
Last year, Ford sold 125,809 Mustang coupes and convertibles across 146 countries, making it the best-selling coupe sports car for the third consecutive year.
The Mustang has been the best-selling sports car in America for the past 50 years, based on Ford's analysis of new vehicle registrations in the U.S. from 1966 to 2018 across all sports car segments, according to data from IHS Markit.
