Overview of the System
Hyundai Motor Group has showcased a video featuring an innovative wireless charging system for electric vehicles, alongside another system designed for automated parking of these vehicles.
Benefits of the System
This system will provide convenience for drivers facing crowded parking spaces and charging locations, especially with the steady increase in the number of electric vehicles. The model operates to:
- Automatically transfer fully charged electric vehicles from charging stations.
- Allow the charging of other waiting vehicles to commence.
How the System Works
The vehicle will automatically be directed to an available wireless charging station when prompted through a smartphone. Once charged, it will be relocated to another available parking spot using an automated parking system, thus allowing other waiting vehicles to charge.
When the driver calls for their vehicle, it will return automatically to their location. This entire process is facilitated through continuous communication between the electric vehicle, the parking facility, the charging system, and the driver.
Future Expectations
Hyundai envisions bringing this technological innovation to practical reality, aiming for commercialization around the anticipated launch of Level 4 autonomous vehicles in 2025. The company plans to begin commercial production and marketing of self-driving cars in several smart cities starting in 2021, with the goal of launching fully autonomous vehicles by 2030.
