Lincoln MKX Review: A Distinctive Luxury Crossover

What is the Lincoln MKX?

Lincoln is a brand that many in the GCC may overlook when considering a new car. This is largely due to the dominance of its parent company, Ford, which has captured most of the market share. Additionally, American luxury vehicles like Cadillac have also claimed significant space in this market. To carve out a larger niche, Lincoln is focusing on design, with the MKX being a prime example.

You can think of the Lincoln MKX as a distant cousin of the Ford Edge. Unlike the Edge, the MKX features a design that feels distinct and unique, as if Lincoln has taken apart the Edge and creatively reassembled it. Inside, the MKX offers a different experience as well, with unique interior materials that enhance the luxury feel, while the layout remains somewhat similar to the Ford. The only component carried over from the Ford Edge is the Sync infotainment system. Under the hood, the MKX is equipped with a 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost engine, delivering 330 BHP and 500 Nm of torque.

How is the Lincoln MKX?

The Lincoln MKX impresses from the start with its quiet cabin, providing an almost haunting silence. Instead of a traditional gearbox, the MKX features buttons for gear selection on the dashboard, which may take some time to get used to. The interior is adorned with leather and ample soft padding, ensuring a comfortable ride for up to five adults. Despite the relatively small 2.7-liter engine, the MKX offers a fun driving experience thanks to the EcoBoost technology that provides a burst of energy when needed. While steering feedback may be minimal, the combination of grippy tires and all-wheel drive results in an engaging crossover experience.

Is the Lincoln MKX Worth It?

This is a tough question to answer. The entry-level variant with the standard 3.7-liter V6 starts at AED 175,000, which is manageable. However, the turbocharged 2.7-liter variant can reach prices close to AED 250,000. While the MKX is by no means a bad car, its pricing combined with brand perception in this market could be a disadvantage. As always, it's recommended to try it before you buy it.
