The Future Bus
The future bus, based on the best-selling Citro, represents Mercedes-Benz's vision for public transport. It utilizes a variety of cameras, radars, and connected data to navigate urban environments, featuring the ability to:
- Recognize traffic signals
- Brake autonomously
- Open and close doors without driver intervention
Testing the Bus in the Netherlands
To validate its capabilities, the Mercedes-Benz bus was tested on a dedicated bus lane in the Netherlands. The bus covers a distance of 12 miles (19.3 km), transporting passengers from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport to Haarlem, navigating tunnels and traffic signals along the way.
Bus Features
The bus is set to be showcased at the World Vehicle Exhibition in Germany. It can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h and is capable of detecting obstacles and pedestrians on the road. A spokesperson for the German brand stated:
"These features will be tested in future Mercedes-Benz buses, showcasing the best of what we have to offer and preparing them for a range of advancements in the coming years."
