Changes to Taxi Sharing Rules in Dubai
New Regulations for Taxis
The regulators of taxi services in Dubai have amended the previous rule that prohibited passengers from sharing a taxi with more than one party.
Ride Sharing Opportunities
Taxi drivers are now permitted to drop off multiple passengers along the same route, but the meter must not be reset at each stop. The last passenger to exit the vehicle is responsible for paying the full fare.
Official Statements
Dr. Yusuf Al Ali, the CEO of the Public Transportation Authority, stated that two friends can share a taxi and can disembark at two different points along the way, provided the last person pays for the entire trip.
Addressing Concerns
Dr. Al Ali addressed concerns from both passengers and taxi drivers after the Roads and Transport Authority announced that sharing a taxi was previously prohibited for more than one stop.
Imposed Fines
The Roads and Transport Authority stated that drivers who violate this rule will face a fine of 2,000 AED and may risk being suspended from service.
