Nissan Patrol History: Generations of the Legendary SUV

First Generation Model
In 1951, Nissan unveiled the W4 series, known as the W4-60, featuring a flat hood and a large front grille adorned with the Nissan logo in pressed steel. Measuring 3,615 mm in length, it was equipped with a 3.7-liter engine producing 75 horsepower and 206 Nm of torque. Within a few years, it established a reputation as a robust, reliable vehicle capable of navigating difficult terrains.
Second Generation Model
The production of the 60 series Nissan Patrol began in October 1960 and lasted for two decades, concluding in 1980 with the launch of its final model. During this period, the Patrol became increasingly powerful, finding its way into homes and organizations worldwide. While the first model of this generation produced 125 horsepower, by 1965, this figure had risen to 145 horsepower.
Third Generation Model
Production of the third generation commenced in 1980, but it did not last as long as its predecessor. All models produced after 1980 featured a four-speed manual and a three-speed automatic transmission, along with a long wheelbase. After eight years of production, the fourth generation was introduced.
Fourth Generation Model
The favorite vehicle in the UAE, the Y60 model, was introduced to the world in 1987 with unprecedented technology. It combined comfort and capability, with some models benefiting from a unique rear locking differential. It was offered with a 3.0-liter and a 4.2-liter engine, producing 134 horsepower and 181 horsepower, respectively.
Fifth Generation Model
The Y61 model, dubbed the "New Generation Patrol," featured advanced technology, greater comfort, and a more distinctive design compared to its predecessor. While it underwent a radical redesign in 2004, some communities, like those in the UAE, still refer to it as the Patrol Safari.
Sixth Generation Model
The Y62 series was launched in February 2010 and is the most luxurious model to date, retaining its renowned off-road capability. It features a 5.6-liter engine that produces 400 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque, marking it as the most powerful Patrol model Nissan has ever produced.
